What if instead of figting the cold and the winter darkness we would embrase the season a little bit more?
Slow down, take a deep breath, allow yourself to take a pause.
Whether you’re a fan of frosty mornings or prefer staying snug indoors, there are plenty of ways to enjoy winter without overcomplicating things. Here are some simple, delightful activities to bring warmth and joy to your days.
Make the most of that season
Recharge and get yourself ready for the next year and coming seasons.
Find a favourite cozy soup recipe or a great cookbook to enjoy warm meals. Winter is the perfect time to bake cookies, make hearty stews, or experiment with festive recipes. The warmth of the oven and the delicious smells wafting through your home make cooking feel like an adventure.
Embrace the beauty of the season by stepping outside. A brisk walk in the crisp winter air, surrounded by snow-dusted trees, can be both invigorating and peaceful. Don’t forget to bundle up in your favorite scarf and gloves!
As the days get shorter and darker create a cozy home environment. Change your lights to warm tone, light a candle and diffuse your favourite essential oils.
Make a reading list and dedicate a corner for this where you can sit down, cozy up in a big blanket, drink a cup of tea and get lost in a story for at least 30 minutes. Get a library membership to not break the bank.
Binge-watch holiday classics, or start a new series. Let the flickering lights of a fire (or even just some candles) set the mood for a relaxing evening indoors.
Decorate your space. Bring the magic of winter into your home with simple decorations. String fairy lights around windows, add cozy blankets to your living room, or place pinecones and candles on your table for a touch of seasonal charm.
Practice gratitude and reflection. Winter’s slower pace makes it an ideal time for self-reflection. Start a gratitude journal or set goals for the upcoming year. These quiet moments can help you appreciate the season’s stillness.
For me the most important thing is to take care of myself. Winter can sometimes feel a bit gloomy, so make time for activities that make you feel good. Whether it’s a warm bubble bath, yoga, or simply taking a nap under a soft blanket, prioritize your well-being.
Stay hydrated, heated environments can dry your skin, so drink plenty of water ( I like warm lemon water) and herbal teas.
Add colours to you wardrobe and home. Winter is usually full of dark tones outside, so why not brighten up your days with some fun pieces.
Try a winter hobby. Use the season as an excuse to try something new. Whether it’s knitting a scarf, learning to make handmade holiday cards, or trying your hand at photography, winter is a great time to get creative.
Winter doesn’t have to be complicated to be enjoyable. By embracing simple, meaningful activities, you can make this season one of warmth, joy, and connection. So, grab your favorite blanket, a steaming mug of something delicious, and savor the beauty of winter in all its forms.
